seattle

if you follow me on instagram, you prob already know that we took a quick trip to seattle last weekend and it was so so good. i had never been there before so i was like a little kid when we landed. i wanted to visit the space needle, pike's place market, the gum wall, eat beecher's mac & cheese, munch on cheese curds, gyro's, falafel and everything else that would make a trip to seattle incredibly cliche. but i didn't care. we had about a day and half to do everything we wanted to do and damnit we were going to fit it all in!

after landing at about 8:30am on friday we had a few hours to kill before we had to check in with the army's yellow ribbon (the entire reason we were there) and we headed straight to pike's place. i couldn't believe i was really there in real life! it sounds so silly, but there is something about being in a place that you've only read about or seen in movies that makes being there in person so cool. the first thing we did was head straight for the gum wall. after accumulating gum for the last 20 years, they had scraped it only a couple weeks before so it could start over. which was a bummer but didn't matter because i was starstruck at just being in the alley! and the new gum already stuck to the wall is an incredibly disgusting tradition that for some reason i'm obsessed with.

later in the day we went to a couple thrift shops (because my mom & i are addicted obviously) and found a few treasures to bring home! i wish i had more room in my carry on because there were a couple of chairs i would've loved to bring home... next time.

saturday evening after the convention, we booked tickets for a ghost tour in downtown with 'spooked in seattle' at pioneer square. so cool you guys! i love ghost tours in old parts of cities when they have the city history and spooky stories to go along with it. tyler had some negative reservations about it at first, but he'll tell you it was really cool if you ask him now. he's slowly learning that there's cooler shit to do than the average sight-seeing. anyone watch dead files on the travel channel? they did an episode at merchants cafe in pioneer square and i went to it! to the downstairs and everything. don't be jealous.

sunday we had meetings until noon and our flight was at 5:30pm. so after getting back to our room, packing and heading out, we had a couple hours to bum. we met some friends at woodland park zoo, socialized for a bit and then headed to our last destination. the space needle.

unfortunately, we didn't get to go up, there was just no time. but i did get to stand in awe in front of it for a few minutes and take a million pictures as everyone complained. cause that's just what i do.

anyone from seattle? been there? want to go again? what did i miss that i need to do next time?

My Weekend Recap.

Occasionally when both Tyler & I have to work on the same day, I make my mom & step-dad come into
town to hang out with Drey. I don't do daycares or random babysitters... I just can't.
They came into town Thursday afternoon & we were non-stop the whole time!

Side story:
I got home from work Thursday night and my mom & I went to K-Mart for something, I can't remember, and they were having a $1.99 clearance sale. PLUS their shoes were buy 1 get 1...
I know what you're thinking, K-MART?! Girl where is your class...?
I don't have any.
If it's cute, I'm buying it! Especially at $1.99!
So we walked out of there with a handful of shirts each, 4 pairs of shoes, a couple sweaters, handful of
comfy pants for Drey, an adoarble jacket... all of that together under $100. It was awesome.
End side story.

We spent Friday & Saturday going to yard sales, thrifting, hitting up every antique store in this county
AND climbing a mountain digging for dinosaur bones. Drey even has his license to do so.
My favorite find was that big old rusty P I put above my pantry door.
(not to mention a 5 gallon ceramic crock I put on layaway at the antique store. who does that?! me..)
Saturday morning I had to pick up my Bountiful Basket, mmmm! And then I ate a doughnut for breakfast, go figure.

I've gotten a couple emails about a drink I briefly talked about here.
Mostly about what was in it blah blah... So I'm going to do a post about it! My very first "recipe" post. Coming soon :-))
Oh my gosh I'm Martha, I can't even handle it.

Those little moments are perfect.

I love when I can sit back and watch Dreydan find so much joy in something so ordinary.
In a way, it makes that dreaded time stand still for a small moment.

He thought it was so cool that every time the wind blew, the leaves would blow off the tree.
He tried for a while to catch the leaves as they were falling to the ground, but he just wasn't quick enough!
He would say "oooh man! i almost had it!" and laugh & laugh.. I just love him.

How was your Sunday afternoon?

Snow Canyon

Southern Utah is one of my most favorite places to be. It's GORGEOUS! Beautiful red mountains, amazing hiking and not to mention the weather is always right up my alley, 80 degrees+...loveee!

We drove down this past weekend to visit Ty's grandma in St. George. Recently, her hubby passed away and so she's been getting lots of family visits during the weekends. She was thrilled when Ty called and told her we were coming.

I love road trips with Tyler. He's so NOT a "road trip" person & hates being in the car for very long. Especially when he's the driver {i'm the total opposite. i love them!}. So what do I do? Make him drive alllll the way down and force him to tell me stories the whole time. His 2 least favorite things. Ever. He loves me! Don't ya babe :))

We hit up Snow Canyon on Sunday and took Dreydan on his first real hike. He's the best little hiking buddy. Collecting sticks, throwing rocks, begging to us to find dinosaur eggs... seriously, thee best. We had a mini picnic at the bottom of our trail & then started making our way back up. Tyler had to carry Drey for a bit on the way out but after walking almost 2 miles, what 2 year old wouldn't?

{according to drey, that giant hole is a dinosaur cave. he's prob right}

I mean just look at that scenery!!
Love it.

Dino Expo {just kill me}

So I'm not one to complain... hahahaha just kidding. I complain a lot.
Today is no exception. Gear up!

Sunday morning Dreydan & I went to the expo center, they were having a huge Dinosaur exhibition with games, bounce houses, scavenger hunts, huge life-size mechanical dinosaurs, face painting, dino rides etc... You name it, they had. It looked/sounded SO fun. It was only here for the weekend so I had to take Drey. I just had to.

We got there early afternoon.... We stood in line for a good 30 min to pick up our tickets. Already bad juju, should've known.
Once we were inside, the first thing they do is snag you for a 3D photo-op. It would've been cool if the lady wasn't yelling at us.. She looked at Drey & I and said "Just 2 of you?!?! Fine, stand here!" Umm, okay? We were supposed to look up at something they had on the wall and "look scared" but she kept yelling at Drey to stand on the X! and for me to stop kneeling, stand up! I had no idea she had taken the picture so when we went to look at it, we had Dreydan staring down at the X & me glaring at the lady, in the process of standing up. I shit you not. That was the picture she took and expected us to purchase...

The next part was pretty cool.
You followed a path that led you through different stages of the dino era's {pictured above}. There were just A LOT of people so it was hard to stand in one place for too long without getting trampled. We moved through that quickly.

After you come out on the other side... SHIT SHOW. It was a mess!
The bounce houses had a wait of about 40 min for 5 min of playtime.
Face painting was prob 40+ min... there were like 2 people painting.
The dino rides {there were 4} had who knows how long... too long.
The "digging area" was jam packed...

Can you picture it? Ugh it was terrible.
We stood in line for one of the bounce houses & then we left.
I felt so bad! But seriously, we had been there for what, almost 2 hours, and hadn't done a damn thing.

Oh and did I mention that Sunday in Utah is when all the crack heads come out of hiding with their children?
Well, it is. And those were the type of people there. Good times right?
