Stop asking me to follow your blog.

There is one thing that irritates me more than Fashion Bloggers and that's bloggers
who comment to only get a follow. Right?

Like when you randomly have a dumb comment in between awesome comments that are like
"Hey I'm so excited to follow you, I hope you'll follow me back!"

I'm sorry but... no. I'm not about that life.
First of all, I'm really mad at you because did you even read my post?
Do you know the kind of blogger you're subscribing to?
Did you read about me first?
Do you know ANYTHING I want you to know about me before following?

Probably not.

And that makes me want to stab you in the neck with a knife! #stepbrothersforlife
I'm not here to win a HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN I GET TO FOLLOW ME IN ONE DAY! contest.
I'm not.
And I'm not flattered by the fact that you followed me because I know you're not reading my content &
I know you have no intention to. So let's not waste each others time, mkay.

Secondly, I don't care about the number of followers I have.
I care about how many readers I have.
What's the point of 1000+ followers when only 50 of them read your words?

I will find your blog eventually.
If I love it, I'll follow. If not, I won't.
Nobody should take that personally.
Just so I'm clear, I'm not going to follow your blog just because you asked me to.
If you're going to even bother commenting, put a little effort into it! Shit.

That's all.

  2. ↑ haha! I love this post! I think the next time someone does it to me I'm just going to copy the url of this post in comments haha! It is the most annoying thing ever to our your heart out about something and then get a comment that says 'Nice post, follow me' I haven't had the balls to write a post liked this - I'm glad you did!

  3. straight up, i delete those comments and remove their URLs from my blog. ain't nobody got time for trolls.

with that said, follow me and i'll follow you? hahaah kidding.

i'm not in it for the numbers either. i never look at my stats, i dont even have GFC installed on my blog. do i want readers? yes - who doesn't? but i want meaningful connections, not someone trolling to up their numbers and leave me a lame-ass comment like "great post!" which obviously tells me that they didn't read shit. there are times i wan to to reply: oh really? what exactly did you think was so great about that? but theni think: calm down, kathy - it's just the internet. LOL

  4. This is why I love you. I hate these comments too! I follow very few blogs. I'm busy, I don't have time to read 50 blogs every day. So I only follow the ones I really like. And guess what? Not a single one of those "follow me" comments has led to a blog I enjoyed. Not one.

  5. Such a great post and I couldn't agree more! When I comment on someone's post I'll say "Newest follower" or something and leave my blog link at the bottom of the comment. I want the person to know that I'm interested in their blog and really enjoy it. I leave my link just in case they want to come look, not for numbers or anything. It's fun because I'm actually going through that with a new blogger right now. I've been giving her advice on different blogging things and she keeps saying "I'm really trying to get readers or followers. If there's a way you know how to do that let me know." I've never gotten an email quiet that blunt about wanting followers before.

  6. I can't even tell you how much I agree. It drives me absolutely nuts when people have comments like that. How did they even find me?!

  7. Why doesn't this post have a like button so that I can make love to it?

Seriously, you couldn't have said it any better! It's annoying as hell.

  8. I absolutely love your brutal honesty. Thanks for saying what everyone else it thinking when that happens. It is truly the quality of your readers than the quantity! All your posts are exactly what I am thinking but I don't have the eloquence {or guts} to put it into words... so thank-you!

    1. Ha well you're welcome! I love complaining ;-)
If you ever need to just let something out, I'll do it for you. I'll write that shit out like it's nobodies business.
      I gotchu.

  9. Amen. I'm clearly not in it for the follows either, since I've been blogging for 3 years and don't even have 100 followers. But I do have some loyal readers and they mean more to me than a "follow for a follow' who doesn't give 2 shits about what I have to say.

  10. Either Amanda or Kerry tweeted your post and I am so glad they did! SERIOUSLY WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE WHO COPY/PASTE THE SAME DAMN COMMENT INTO TWENTY BLOGS A DAY? Is there some blog newsletter circulating that says "Comment with bullshit, it's fun!"? Leave a comment that show you read, or don't. Do waste my time replying to your crap commend out of obligation. Argh.

And for the record I just read your about me and a few recent posts (our resolutions sound pretty similar) so I am going to follow you now with no expectations on your end :) Because you say the things I think and talk myself out of!

  11. I totally totally agree!! My favorite is seeing the comments with the 24329703 links to different things they want you to follow! Seriously, like read the post and contribute to it with a good comment. So glad you posted this!

  12. Ohmygod yessssss. I've never left that type of comment cause I don't want to be an asshole. If you wanna take time outta your day to maybe actually read my blog cause you were legit interested, then great. If not, I really don't give a shit. I'm gonna write regardless. Do your thing, girl!

  13. Haha now I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one that felt this way. This specific message needs to find its way to one particular blogger lol

  15. If I was just a stalker and happen to come a crossed your blog I would give you a WTF but your so honestly in your face I am Em. That is what makes me laugh, you don't care what others think or do. You say what you needs to be said.

    1. Well thank you for not giving me the WTF because you prob wouldn't like what I'd give you back... ;-)) So thanks for being on my side & laughing about it. That's what it's all about, just laugh!

  16. How do you make your honesty so badass? Haha love it! I'd definitely rather have people read my posts from top to bottom and write a comment that shows that they read it than swap 'follows'.

  17. Hahahaha, so great! I haven't gotten many of these comments lately, but I've gotten a lot of it on my blog Facebook page. I always get a DM (I guess it happens on Twitter too.) "Hey! I just followed all of your social media, please follow me back?!" Um... no... you look desperate... just don't! Leave a nice comment, maybe link to your blog/social media as part of your "signature" but don't beg for a follow back, that just looks dumb!

  18. Hey. I am new to this blogging thing...and well. I haven't had 1 of those trolls yet. :) Maybe soon and when I do!!!! I am going to send them to this. Thanks Em. xoxo.

  19. This post + the one on fashion bloggers have made my life. I get this constantly on facebook and twitter too /// thanks for this!
    PS. follow me back? JK!

  20. THIS. Yes. I just don't do it. Occasionally I'll go visit theirs, but generally I just don't respond or follow back. It's like you're single and meet someone at a bookstore, and you chat for a few minutes, telling him (or her, I guess) about yourself. And after all that, all he says is, "That's great! Hey can I have your number?"

Also you should totally follow me. ;)

  21. Well said. I got one of those comment on my About Me page (I think) and, since I'm a regular blog stalker, I have seen that same exact message from that same exact blogger on other blogs! 1. I didn't feel special when you left that generic comment on my page; 2. It felt like you were fishing for a follow back (I don't do that shit just 'cause - I only follow blogs I enjoy); and 3. My suspicions were validated when I saw you say this to everyone. I'm on to you, chica.
